Official Judging Points for Baskets
Points system and rules
The following points system and rules for judging should be used for shows held under BGS regulations.
Notes
Quality of Blooms
The general standards applicable to individual flowers- form, freshness, size, substance and texture should apply. Those standards relating to spikes- bud count, balance (over and under flowering), straightness of stem and the removal of flowers should not be applied. However, tips should not be removed. Condition, i.e freshness and absence of damage are very important.
Form of Arrangement
There should be a discernible general design. Size should be appropriate to the basket. The arrangement should not be overcrowded but gaps should be avoided. There should be an impression of depth and exhibits leaning forward or appearing flat should be penalised.
Colour
Colours may harmonise, blend, ore be pleasantly contrasting. Colours of individual blooms should conform to the known standard for the cultivar.
Foliage
Foliage may be used but flower is to dominate.
Supports
These are allowed as long as they are used discreetly.
